At the Recreation, Housing and Renewal (RRH) Committee on 15th November, the committee voted to approve the repair works to bring back to life the Castlecombe Youth Centre in Mottingham.
The Centre, which will house the much needed and used Learning Shop facility formerly located on Cranley Parade, is something local Conservative Councillors Will Rowlands and David Cartwright have fought extensively to achieve since the lease on the old shop expired.
Speaking in support of the initiative at the RRH meeting, Councillor Rowlands said:
"The Mottingham Service centre which was located in the Learning shop was a much valued and needed service within the Mottingham Community. It is clear that the temporary relocation to the Library in the Village hasn't worked and it is only right that common sense prevails and the service returns to the estate".
Councillor Cartwright later added:
"I’m delighted that we have been able to secure the funding - amongst a harsh financial environment, to carry out this scheme. The repairs due to take place at the Youth Centre provides a fantastic opportunity to not only bring back the learning shop, but to also bring life back into the building, whilst generating more wider opportunities to an area of social and economic deprivation".
Your Conservative Councillors look forward to updating on the timescale for the completion of the repair works in the New Year.
