Residents may have seen press coverage recently about Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) and closures ordered at c100 schools across the country. Academies are considered the Responsible Body for property issues of this kind and therefore Department for Education (DfE) liaise directly with the academy trusts. Bromley Council are responsible for the 6 Local Authority (LA) maintained schools. Irrespective of the responsibility, matters around school closure have clear implications for the LA and of course are of great interest to residents.
The Council has sought clarification from DfE and been advised that no Bromley schools are currently affected by the enforced closures. There are however Bromley schools understood to be at risk of potentially having RAAC and the position is subject to change. The Council will update residents further as needed.
