In response to a FOI request TfL have confirmed that nearly 88% of foreign registered vehicles don’t pay their ULEZ fines. The figures also reveal that as a result TfL lost a minimum of nearly £8M last year in uncollected fines. This would have been £16M if the full fine rate was collected. Even worse the most recent figure show that in May this year 98% of fines went unpaid.
“Yet again ordinary residents of Greater London are paying for the mistakes of TfL and Sadiq Khan” said Cllr Fawthrop “ Some of the poorest residents of Greater London and beyond are all expected to pay £12.50 a day or face a £180.00 fine, but it appears if you have a foreign registered vehicle you can get off scot-free and continue polluting in the process. It is no wonder TfL finances are in such a mess with this type of ineptitude.”
The information was in response to FOI request FOI-0827-2324 from a Greater London resident. This demonstrates yet again that this is not about air quality, but all about raising revenue to compensate for Khan and TfL’s inability to run their finances properly.
