Today Michael Akinsola was found guilty of careless driving, whist employed as a TfL security guard at Bromley Magistrates Court.
The magistrates were clear that the evidence provided by the claimant Heather Watt was both credible and compelling. In her evidence she described how on 12th November 2023 Akinsola deliberately ran the TfL security car into her twice on Buckhurst Rd Westerham and how he then fled the scene, by driving away. “In her evidence, Heather described how “As a driving instructor this is the worst driving I’ve ever seen.”
Whist not provided in evidence to the proceedings, Akinsola was apprehended approximately 7 miles away from the scene approaching junction 4 of the M25 after being followed by Biggin Hill resident Claire Dyer.
When considering the severity of the offence the Crown submitted that the offence was a category 1 offence as there was evidence of higher culpability and greater harm. The sentencing was adjourned for two weeks as Akinsola was absent from the hearing and it was revealed he already had 6 penalty points on his driving licence, had he been present the bench would have considered disqualifying him from driving immediately.
Conservative Councillor Simon Fawthrop, a spokesman for Heather Watt said:
“Ultimately TfL are responsible for these actions, as Akinsola was working on their behalf. Now Sadiq Khan and TfL should both apologise and immediately compensate Heather for the injuries she sustained from this reckless TfL security guard. This irresponsible criminal behaviour under the auspices of TfL, caused Heather to be off work without any income, as a self-employed driving instructor, for 6 weeks. She deserves compensating in full.”
